Short answer: St. Moritz is the birthplace of Alpine winter tourism and two-time Winter Olympics host (1928, 1948). It has three main ski areas — Corviglia, Corvatsch and Diavolezza — famous Engadine sunshine and events on the frozen lake. It's on the Ikon Pass (7 days) and is the eastern end of the Glacier Express. Stay at Badrutt's Palace, the Kulm or the Carlton.

St. Moritz invented winter tourism in 1864 — or so the legend goes, with a hotelier betting British summer guests they'd love the Engadine in winter. More than 160 years later, the Engadine's dry cold air and sunshine are still the draw.

What is there to do in St. Moritz besides skiing?

Walk or skate on the frozen lake, watch the White Turf horse races (February), ride the Bernina Express to Italy, try the Cresta Run (members) or sledding at Preda–Bergün nearby.
