Jungfraujoch 2026: Tickets, Cost, Weather & Is It Worth It?

Jungfraujoch is the classic Swiss splurge: a train that tunnels through the Eiger and comes out at 3,454 m (11,332 ft), the highest railway station in Europe. On a clear day you look straight down the Aletsch Glacier, the longest in the Alps. On a cloudy day you look at a white wall. Timing is everything.
How to get there
- Train to Grindelwald Terminal (about 35 minutes from Interlaken Ost).
- Eiger Express gondola to Eigergletscher (about 15 minutes), right below the Eiger's north face.
- Jungfrau Railway through the mountain to the summit station.
That's about 45 minutes from Grindelwald. For the classic route, go up via Lauterbrunnen, Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg and come back via the Eiger Express: you see both valleys.

What it costs (2026)
| Ticket | Full fare (approx.) |
|---|---|
| Round trip from Interlaken Ost, May–Oct | CHF 271 |
| Round trip from Interlaken Ost, Nov–Apr | CHF 224 |
| With Swiss Travel Pass | about 25% off |
| With Half Fare Card | about 50% off |
From May to October, a seat reservation (about CHF 10) is mandatory. Starting from Grindelwald is cheaper than from Interlaken. Prices vary by source, so check jungfrau.ch before buying.
Make the most of it
- Check the webcam first on jungfrau.ch. If the summit is in cloud, change your day. This is the most important tip on this page.
- Take the first train up. Clouds often build by midday, and the crowds arrive at the same time.
- At the top: the Sphinx observation deck, the Ice Palace carved into the glacier, and a short snow walk on the plateau.
- Altitude: walk slowly, drink water, and skip the alcohol until you're back down.
- Bring sunglasses and a warm layer, even in August.
Is it worth the money?
It's expensive, and some travelers find the summit busy and commercial. If your budget is tight, Grindelwald First and Bachalpsee or the Schilthorn give huge views for less. But if the forecast is clear and you've never seen a glacier this big, it's a once-in-a-lifetime morning.
Where to stay
Grindelwald is the best base: the Eiger Express leaves from the edge of the village, so you can catch the first gondola up.
